Seasonal Changes...

As summer approaches, we are having a good spring clean & updating our menus, in order to continue providing you with the freshest local produce on offer!!

Whilst we will continue to offer your favourites, like the Sausage & Vienna Schnitzel combo, we are also introducing more salads and lighter meals as the warmer weather approaches - although today was pretty hot again!!! We also look forward to adding a range of specials to our menu - so keep your eyes peeled for those - and we'll have more to offer the vegetarians amongst you!

Some of us were lucky to escape for a few hours to enjoy the Stanthorpe races... We scrubbed up ok too... If you're from out of town, the races are well worth a visit & who knows, you might even win enough for a few extra nights in the Granite Belt.

This weekend, we also welcomed 120 guests from RSL clubs, who were on a visit to the Southern Downs. Having been to see the beautiful gardens of Das Helwig House, they then came to enjoy a wine tasting, followed by a three course meal. The restaurant was full to the brim, but a great time was had by all.

In case you hadn't noticed from seeing the decorations going up in shops and the annual bursts of "Jingle Bells" and "Deck the Halls" beginning to blast out from shopping centres around the country, Christmas is fast approaching... Yes it really is mid October already!! If you haven't booked your Christmas party yet, don't leave it until the last minute & find out all the best places are full!

The dishes are done, the chooks are happily nestled up for the night & the dogs have been fed, so it must be time to have a sit down and a glass of port...or maybe muscat...perhaps a rosé..choices, choices, choices...

Something to think about

Being situated on a farm, we're used to being surrounded by animals but no matter how many lambs, calves and goslings are born here, we still love our cats & dogs.

Recently we adopted 2 puppies; a kelpie cross & a lab x border collie, from We Care Animal Shelter in Stanthorpe - set up by a local woman, in order to ensure no animal is without a home. However, it has come to our attention that this shelter will not be able to continue, unless it is able to raise more funds, as the cost of food and basic care materials rise and more animals are handed in on a weekly basis.

We at Claudia's Country Restaurant & Thunderbolt Farm, see this as something the community here in Stanthorpe and the surrounding areas, need to get involved in. Educating pet owners on the need to desex animals at a young age is vital in helping to curb the number of unwanted animals reaching the doors of the We Care Animal Shelter - but funds / food & basics are also essential.

Watch this space as we prepare to activate the community & set up some fund-raising initiatives!

They think it's all over...

Although Oktoberfest may be over for another year, don't despair - you can still get great home-cooked German meals from Claudia's Country Restaurant throughout the year, as well as a selection of pure & chemical free, imported beers from Germany!

We will also be hosting a number of other themed nights, as well as Christmas functions, later in the year - watch this space!

Earlier today we had a fabulous crowd in of both locals and tourists, who were all in fine voice & ready to enjoy the delicious German specialities from the kitchen, washed down with a stein or two of imported beer and a glass of riesling!

Preparations are currently underway for this evening's festivities - and of course we follow a similar programme tomorrow day (please note Oktoberfest dinner is Saturday night only; October 11th).
